About

Why did we create this service?

Many states have little or no protection for boat owners from unscrupulous, fraudulent, or incompetent marine industry businesses.  More often than not, boat owners have to risk their money, their vessel, and more importantly, their time hoping that the marine industry operator that they are dealing with, be it a boat builder, repair facility, or independent contractor, has not only the skill sets to accomplish the job at hand, but also has the time and business management skills to execute the contract. This is assuming that they do have a plan. Sadly, many of them do not.

Unfortunately, the statement, “Let the Buyer Beware”. rings all too true in the marine industry.

What we do not understand is that many boaters out there, simply pay the bill for crappy work, slipshod business dealings and move on. Many people are afraid to leave bad reviews   knowing that they have a limited effect. Or they are too embarrassed to share their story.

Boatscum.com is intended to educate your fellow boaters about unscrupulous marine business operators and help them avoid the same negative fate. Every single story here is a real world experience provided by our members. Every member is known to us as an intelligent boat owner who has had a true experience with the marine business he or she is writing about. And every story is verified by our fact checkers. There are no trolls or internet crackpots here.

We can be reached at info@boatscum.com if you would like to participate in expanding our reach and help clean up scummy services.
